What is Kiwanis?

Kiwanis is an International Service Organization made up of more than 8,000 clubs in over 70 countries. The Kiwanis Club of Brookfield, founded in 1955, has served South-East Wisconsin and the World. Our club performs thousands of hours of service to the community. We organize Blood Drives, help with Special Olympics and National Night Out.

We also sponsor the Key Club at Brookfield East. Key Club is the high school level of Kiwanis, and our Brookfield East club is one of the best in the state. Key Club performs thousands of hours of  service both in the school and the community. Key club also provides leadership opportunities for students.

Our main focus in Kiwanis is on children. We are serving the children of the world. Currently we are working to irradiate Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD), the worlds leading preventable cause of mental retardation. More than 1.5 billion people are at risk for IDD, and the Kiwanis family is working to bring that number to zero. Iodization of salt in third-world countries is the easiest and most effective way to help rid the world of IDD, and that is what we are doing.

Right now there are about 20 of us in the Kiwanis Club of Brookfield. We are working hard to change the community for the better. We are donating money to help our kids go to college, go to an Easter Seals Camp, get a wheelchair, and rid the world of IDD.

We are Caring, We are Kiwanis
